Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How does the process work?
A: The steps are fairly simple.
- Fill out an application
- Fill out an insurance and medical release
- Copy your policy
- Send it to us
- We take this information and review it. If the policy is in order, we commission an independent medical review. Upon receipt of the medical review, we present an offer to you to purchase the policy.
Q: How much does this service cost?
A: There is no cost to you for this service. The organization that purchases
your policy pays us. You get to keep the entire amount that is offered to
you.
Q: Do I need to take a medical exam?
A: No. The information provided with your application and the medical release
will allow us to assess the value of the policy without any invasive exams.
Q: Am I obligated to accept the offer?
A: No. You retain the absolute right to accept or decline the offer.
Q: What if I change my mind?
A: You may decide not to proceed at any time during the process. In most cases,
you even have fifteen days after the policy is purchased to change your mind
and we will cancel the transaction with no cost to you.
Q: What are the tax consequences?
A: In most cases, the amount you receive, that is above your cost basis, is taxable.
We recommend that you consult your attorney or tax advisor.
Q: What alternatives do I have?
A: It may be possible to get a loan secured by the policy or you may surrender
the policy for its cash value.
Q: How long does the process take?
A: Normally it takes 4 to 6 weeks from the time you submit and application until
you receive your funds. This depends on how quickly your doctors and insurance
company take to respond to our inquiries.
